Course Description:

This course will articulate and inform licensees about Comar 10.44.22, the new Maryland Dental Regulation on Continuing Education, and to address the role of the dental practitioners play in preventing prescription drug abuse.

Course Objectives:

Participants will learn and gain an understanding of:

  • Prescription writing, proper technique, protection of prescription pads or software prescription programs.

  • Discuss available electronic programs, CRISP, Maryland PDMP

  • Prescription Drug Abuse Crisis, review of the problem throughout the country, including Review of DEA Schedule of Controlled Substances, recognition of commonly abused prescribed drugs, “Doctor Shopping”.

  • Opioid Prescribing, drug diversion and educating patients when prescribing CDS.

  • Best practices for handling and disposal of medications and controlled substances.

  • Non-CDS alternatives for patients and their control of pain.

  • Discuss restrictions for prescribing for self, family members, and non dental problems. Review support services for dependent practitioners.

  • Drug Interactions​.

About our speaker:

Dr. Marc G. Nuger, DDS, is a Certified Instructor, and trained and calibrated as a dental expert witness for the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners.  He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in1979 and has been in private practice in Anne Arundel County and Howard County since then.  He is the Past president of AACDS, Peer Review AACDS, House of Delegate representative from AACDS, and various AACDS committees.  Dr. Nuger is currently MSDA CE Chair and has served as MSDA President Elect and President and MSDA Trustee.  He has also been actively involved in the MSDA COVID 19-Task Force.
